Monster Magnet - Dead Christmas

Et puis il fallait qu'un jour arrive, où, dans un excès d'impatience contenue depuis trop longtemps, je vous mette du Monster Magnet, LE groupe par lequel je suis entré dans le monde du stoner. Que serait ma vie sans eux ? Donc l'aimant monstreux, magnétisant son Space Rock dans vos oreilles, j'y reviendrai, pour sûr.

And a day had to come, when, in an excess of contained impatience, I play some Monster Magnet, THE band through which I entered in the stoner universe. What would be my life without them? So for sure, I am gonna post more about their magnetic space rock.

Krautrock

Le temps est venu d'aller explorer les territoires germaniques, et les expérimentations musicales d'après-guerre. Le "krautrock", c'est un nom générique donné par les anglais (quel allemand irait inventer le rock du chou ?) pour englober tous ces groupes très expérimentaux et plutôt underground d'une Allemagne en reconstruction. Un documentaire de la BBC développe très bien l'origine du nom et les différents groupes associés. On retiendra bien sûr Kraftwerk, qui avant de devenir ces pionniers de la musique électronique à l'esthétique si particulière, à commencé comme une formation aux influences plutôt rock.

Eh bien mon coup de coeur va sans hésiter à Amon Düül II, groupe complètement anti-conformiste et psychédélique au son très intéressant, même si parfois d'une étrangeté (vocale notamment) un peu déstabilisante.

Cette phrase de John Weinzierl, membre d'Amon Düül décrit à merveille leur esprit :

"We wanted to be international, and we tried very hard not to be anglophonic, and not to be german. So... space, was one solution."

V'là donc une petite piqûre de choucroute spatiale pour se mettre à l'aise :

It is time to explore germanic territories, and the musical experimentations post-WWII. "Krautrock" is a name given by the Brittish (what kind of German would invent the "cabbage rock"?) to embrace all these very experimental and rather underground bands in a recovering Germany. A documentary from the BBC explains very well the origin of the name and the multiple associated bands. We notice Kraftwerk of course, which, before becoming pioneer of electronic music with their singular esthetic, started with more rock influences.

So my favorite is definitely Amon Düül II, a totally nonconformist and psychedelic band whose sound is really interesting, even if sometimes quite strange (in particular the voice).

En toute sobriété, je vais vous faire péter la tête par Fuzz Manta et Spacegoat, deux groupes (respectivement danois et mexicain) aux noms croustillants qui mériteraient d'être incorporés dans un remake lysergique de Kung-Fu Panda.

Ces jalons étant maintenant bien plantés dans vos cerveaux encore trop lucides, je vous propose d'aller oublier un peu votre clarté d'esprit dans les volutes de ce son bluesy et doomy que les voix féminines ne font que sublimer. Au bas mot.

To say it soberly, I'm gonna make your head explode by Fuzz Manta and Spacegoat, two bands (respectively from Denmark and Mexico) whose crunchy names should be used in a lysergic remake of Kung-Fu Panda.

This being now properly assimilated in your still too lucid brains, I suggest you forget your clear-headed mind in the waves of this bluesy and doomy sound that the feminine voices exalt. Soberly said. Enjoy.
